Workshop mit dem Kyoto Institute of Technology
Am Freitag, den 27. Oktober begann der erste Workshop in Köln zwischen der Fakultät für Architektur der TH Köln und dem Kyoto Institute of Technology. Die Aktivitäten sind Teil der Internationalisierung und des Kooperationsprogramms zwischen den beiden Hochschulen. Professoren und Studierende aus Japan nahmen zwischen dem 27. Oktober und dem 7. November an Aktivitäten teil, die von der TH Köln organisiert wurden. Zu den Aktivitäten gehören Vorlesungen, Workshops, Ausflüge in Städte entlang des Rheins, Museumsbesuche und Abendessen in Restaurants mit typisch deutscher Küche.
On Friday, October 27 th, the first Workshop in Cologne between Faculty of Architecture TH Köln, and Kyoto Institute of Technology, started.The activities are part of the internationalization and the cooperation program between the universities. Professors and students from Japan will have activities organized by TH Koln between 27thOctober until 7thNovember. Activities include lectures, workshops, excursions to cities along the Rhine river, visits to museums and dinners in restaurants serving typical Germanfood.
Die japanischen Professoren Prof. Hiroaki Kimura, Prof. Akira Kakuda und ihre Studierenden wurden am Freitag den 27. September von Prof. Jochen Siegemund, Frédéric Schnee und von Kölner Studierenden an der Fakultät empfangen. Am Samstag begann der Workshop in der Hochschule. Die Lehrenden und Studierenden aus Japan stellten sich zunächst kurz vor und bildeten dann mit den deutschen Studierenden eine Gruppe.
The reception of the Japanese professors Prof. Hiroaki Kimura, Prof. Akira Kakuda and their students was held by Prof. Jochen Siegemund and Frédéric Schnee at the faculty of architecture on Friday 27th. On Saturday the workshop started in the University. The teachers and students from Japan were started a short presentation of themselves, and then formed group with the German students.
Die Studierenden sollten ein Projekt entwickeln, das am Rheinufer angesiedelt ist und mit der Stadt Köln in Dialog tritt. Thema, Funktion und Ort sind dabei frei wählbar. Die ersten beiden Tage des Workshops dienten dazu, die japanischen Studenten mit der Stadt und den möglichen Projektstandorten vertraut zu machen. Nachdem die Gruppen gebildet worden waren, begann eine Stadtführung durch Köln, bei der die Lehrenden die Stadt am Rhein vorstellten und die Hintergründe der Entwicklung und des Wachstums der Stadt am Rhein erläuterten. Weiter ging es zum Botanischen Garten in Köln und dann mit einer Seilbahnfahrt über den Rhein. Die Studierenden lernten die Gebäude und ihren Kontext in der Stadt kennen und suchten nach Inspiration und Ideen für die Entwicklung ihrer Projekte.
The students will develop a project that is set on the banks of the Rhine and that dialogues with the city of Cologne, the topics and locations are free to choose. The first two days of the workshop were spent getting the Japanese students involved with the city and the possible project sites. After the groups were formed, a tour of the city of Cologne began with an introduction by the teachers to the city along the River Rhine, explaining the background to the development and growth of the city along its banks. The tour continued to the Cologne Botanical Garden and then a cable car ride over the Rhine. The students went on to get to know the buildings and their context in the city, seeking inspiration and ideas for the development of their projects.
Am Sonntag, dem 29. Oktober, besuchten die Studierenden die Stadt Duisburg. Sie besuchten zwei Museen, unter anderem das Lehmbruck-Museum, das ein Repertoire an Skulpturen, sowie Einblicke in ein Gebäude mit unglaublicher Architektur bot. Nach diesem Besuch ging es weiter zur nächsten Station, dem Museum Küppersmühle. Neben der Besichtigung des Museums, in dem verschiedene Werke der modernen Kunst ausgestellt sind, konnten sie sich über die Gebäude entlang des Rheins und ihre Verbindung mit der Stadt informieren und so ihre Design-Referenzen weiter ausbauen. Am Montag besuchten sie das 3D-Modell der Stadt Köln und begannen mit der Skizzierung der ersten Ideen jeder Gruppe.
On Sunday, October 29, the students visited the city of Duisburg, which is also developing and growing along the Rhine. They visited two museums, the first of which was called the Lehmbruck-Museum and features a repertoire of sculptures created by local artists, as well as a building with incredible architecture. After this visit, they went on to the next stop, the küppersmühle museum. As well as visiting the museum inside, which features various works of modern art, they were able to learn about the buildings along the river Rhine and their connection with the city, in taking their design references further. Monday was the day to visit the 3D model of the city of Cologne and start sketching each group’s first ideas.
Das Projekt
Die von den drei Gruppen entwickelten Projekte hatten unterschiedliche Perspektiven, aber beide hatten die Prämisse, am Rhein zu liegen und den Dialog mit der Stadt Köln zu suchen. Nach der Analyse der Standorte und der Erkundung der Stadt Köln schlugen die japanischen Studenten den deutschen Studenten und Lehrern das Projektkonzept und die Entwurfsideen in einer vorläufigen Präsentation vor, in der sie eine kritischere Bewertung vornehmen konnten, um die Strukturierung der Projekte zu unterstützen.
The projects developed by the three groups had different perspectives, but both had the premise of being located along the Rhine and seeking a dialog with the city of Cologne. After analyzing the sites and studying the city of Cologne, the Japanese students proposed the project concept and design ideas in a preliminary presentation to the German students and teachers, where they were able to make a more critical assessment in support of structuring the projects.
Nach der vorläufigen Präsentation arbeiteten die Studierenden weiter an der Entwicklung der Projekte, bauten 3D Modelle, fertigten Visualisierungen an und zeichneten Details. Die Abschlusspräsentation fand am 6. September in den Räumlichkeiten der Universität statt und wurde auch von eingeladenen Professoren und Studenten verfolgt. Beide Gruppen präsentierten ihre Ideen detailliert und konnten sie mit einem argumentativen und erklärenden Hintergrund vorstellen.
After the preliminary presentation, the students continued to work on the development of the projects, developing three-dimensional models, realistic images, and project details. The final presentation took place on September 6 on the university premises and was watched by invited professors and students. Both groups were able to present their ideas in greater detail, with an argumentative and expository background.
Die Präsentation war ein voller Erfolg, alle Studierenden konnten tolle Projekte für die Stadt Köln entwerfen, die sie inspirierten und die Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Hochschulen stärken. Dieses Jahr jährt sich die Zusammenarbeit zwischen der TH Köln und dem Kyoto Institute of Technology zum zehnten Mal. Auch die Städtepartnerschaft zwischen der Stadt Köln und Kyoto feiert 60 jähriges Bestehen. Nach der Präsentation der Projekte fand im Kölner Rathaus eine Feier statt, um die Beziehungen zwischen den Städten zu feiern und weiter zu festigen. Gegen Ende des Tages fand ein Abendessen in einem Brauhaus mit vielen typisch deutschen Speisen und Getränken statt. Nun werden sich die Studierenden und Lehrenden der TH Köln organisieren, um den zweiten Teil des Workshops zu beginnen, der vom 14. November bis zum 3. Dezember an der japanischen Universität stattfinden wird.
The presentation was a success, and all the students were able to make great projects for the city of Cologne, which inspired them and reinforced the bonds of cooperation between the universities, in the year that marks 10 years of cooperation between TH Köln and Kyoto Institute of Technology, as well as the 60th anniversary of cooperation between the city of Cologne and Kyoto. After the presentation of the projects, we had a celebration in the Cologne town hall with typical Japanese performances to celebrate and further consolidate the ties between the cities. And finally, at the end of the afternoon, we had a dinner in a Brauhaus with lots of typical German food and drinks, as well as lots of celebrating and enjoying the atmosphere. Now the students and teachers from TH Köln will organize themselves to start the other part of the workshop, which will take place at the Japanese university from November 14 until December 3.
